A six pack vessel is an uninspected vessel less than 100 gross tons permitted to carry no more than 6 paying passengers in addition to the crew. A third party can also only charter a 6 pack vessel for up to 6 passengers.
It is important to note that a 6-pack vessel’s 6 passenger limit does not include the crew of the vessel. For example, a sailing skiff with 6 passengers can have the captain and deckhand as crew without exceeding the 6 passenger limit.
In order to be a master of a 6-Pack vessel, a mariner must have a 6 pack master’s license or a master’s license of sufficient tonnage.
